Tips on filling in the profile form

This form creates your "Spurkle profile". This profile is used to do three things: it matches you against vacancies which come into our system; it is used when you decide to apply for vacancies online; and it can be searched by only by Spurkle when we are trying to match up a particular vacancy.

Therefore, the selections you make using the tick boxes are very important for matching, and the text fields you use to describe yourself are vital for when you're applying online.

First name: This information is mandatory.

Last name: This information is mandatory.

Email: This is vital, as it is the means for vacancies to reach you. Your email address is not visible to anyone searching the database - it appears as a 'contact' link. If you change your e-mail address please update it in your details, otherwise you will not receive Spurkle alerts.

Login: With your password this gives you secure access to your details so you can edit them whenever you like. It also gives you access to the jobs board, where vacancies in the Spurkle system are stored.
Choose your own. It must be five or more characters long. It is case sensitive, so you must remember where you have used upper and lower case characters.
You can change it whenever you like by deleting your current choice, typing in the new text, then clicking update at the bottom of the form.

Date of birth: If you are under 22 years old, please enter your date of birth in the format dd/mm/yy. We are required by law to store this information. This information is for internal purposes only and will not be disclosed to employers.

Address: This is mandatory. Town, county and country are used in location searches. It is confidential and does not appear on your profile.

Telephone: This information is mandatory. You can choose to keep it hidden. In many cases employers prefer to contact you by phone. It also helps us if something goes wrong with your email.
You can choose whether your phone number is visible or hidden to our Recruitment Partner. If you choose to keep it hidden the calls will come to us, and we will then contact you.

Mobile: Optional. Employers may wish to contact you quickly, or you may prefer them to use your mobile when they contact you by phone. It also helps us if something goes wrong with your email.

Professional website: Optional. If you have a professional website you would like to refer employers to, you can put the address here and they will find a link on your CV.

Contact number visible: If you prefer to keep your contact details hidden please select 'hidden'. Employers will then be referred to the site administrators who will contact you. Email addresses are all automatically kept hidden.

Fax: Optional.

About me: This is for you to introduce yourself to employers - you may like to include a few words about your aspirations.

Employment History: There is a limit of 4,000 characters (about 1.5 sides of A4) in this field.
You can cut and paste into the text box from existing profiles you may have, or you can type the text directly into the box.
Please put your most recent or relevant experience first.
This text may be searched using a word search.

Voluntary experience: There is a 2000 character limit in this box.
Your experience outside paid work can be very valuable, so make the most of it!
This text may be searched using a word search.

Qualifications: This is for any accredited education or training, such as diplomas, degrees, post-graduate or other professional qualifications.
This text may be searched by us or our Recruitment Partner using a word search.

Recent training: This is for training you have undertaken that is not accredited for example, internal team building, management and supervision, health & safety awareness. This text may be searched using a word search.

Other information: This is in case you have anything specific to say you feel does not fit anywhere else. This text may be searched using a word search.

What prompted you to visit Spurkle?: This helps us to make sure we can be effective in telling people about the Spurkle service.

Years Experience: is mandatory. It will only be used where employers specify it is essential.

Job Types: This is one of the key search tools. If you do not select any boxes you will not receive any Spurkle alerts.
'Job types' are the main areas you have experience in, or feel confident that you are qualified to do, and provide a quick and easy method of matching jobseekers with appropriate vacancies. If you have experience in these areas but not specfically as a , you can still tick the boxes relevant to you.
We ask you to select a maximum of four to make sure searches can be targeted accurately.

Expertise: This is used in searches together with the 'Job type' and the other tick boxes to make sure the matching can be targeted accurately. It is only used when the vacancy requires specific expertise in one of these areas. Select as many as you feel confident you have expertise in.

Professional Membership: This will be only used for searches when a vacancy specifies such membership is essential for the job.

Sectors: This will only be used for searches when a vacancy specifies such experience is essential for the job.

IT Skills: This will only be used for searches when a vacancy specifies competence in this software is essential for the job.

Languages: These languages represent the main community languages in the UK. This will only be used for searches when a vacancy specifies competence in this language is essential for the job.

Upload additional profile: You can upload your own version profile in addition to filling in the form. It can be of any length and will include your personalised formatting. (See Help page when you're logged in for tips on formatting.) Please note the profile you upload is not searchable and is for supplementary information only.

Search function: When you are logged in you can click on Search on the menu bar to see how profiles are searched.

View Profile: Use the View Profile button on the menu bar at any time to see how your profile appears to employers.
